Danio choprai
For a plethora of reasons, the glowlight danio is a deserving winner of Fish of the Week. This beautiful fish is peaceful, hardy, colourful and active, thereby ticking all the boxes required for a small, community fish. They are closely related to the more familiar zebra danio (D. rerio) and are similarly easy to keep. Their size, typically growing to around 2.5 cm (1 inch), makes them perfect for small aquariums with similar-sized tank mates. They have a good appetite once acclimated to an aquarium, and will take most foods as long as the food is small enough to fit into their mouths. Males and females lack obvious differences, but with a trained eye, there are subtle distinctions between the sexes. Given the right setup, the glowlight danio will breed quite readily (although not as easily as the zebra danio) and would make a fun project for aspiring fish-breeders.
