At NT Labs we are forging ahead with our sustainability plans. Last spring we had a solar system installed which provides on average 75% of our energy needs across the year. In addition we have had two EV chargers installed in the car park.
One of the subtle changes we have made that will have a big impact on the environment is our packaging. We have recently decided to remove the laminated plastic layer to our boxes. This gave a glossy look to the packaging but makes it difficult for the cardboard to naturally decompose once finished with. So now with no plastic layer and the use of vegetable based inks our boxes are fully recyclable and use no plastic coating at all. Also, while on the topic of printing, the card and paper we use for our packaging and promotional materials is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
"FSC stands for 'Forest Stewardship Council'. We are an international non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible forestry. FSC certifies forests all over the world to ensure they meet the highest environmental and social standards.
Products made with wood and paper from FSC forests are marked with our ‘tick tree’ logo. When you see this logo, you can be confident that buying it won’t mean harming the world’s forests." Find out more here.
After conducting a waste audit we realised we could recycle a lot more. So across the facility we now have a selection of bins so we can separate our waste making it easier to recycle. This has resulted in us throwing away four time less waste each week. To help with our recycling efforts we have installed two commercial balers, one for plastic and one for cardboard. This means our recyclable waste is compacted so we can get more of it in fewer vehicles.
We are taking our sustainability plans down to the smallest degree, even changing our coffee supplier to use compostable packing rather than aluminium pods.
